About eco packaging

Many food businesses have made the switch to using eco-packaging for packing their products. This is because the materials used to make eco-friendly food packaging are kinder to the environment compared to plastic packaging sources. Less overall waste is produced when manufacturing them as well. Any excess materials leftover from the previous production cycle is simply used to create more packaging products.

Eco-packaging options decompose faster than plastic ones do

Environmentally-friendly packaging is compostable and biodegradable, meaning it naturally decomposes when it is thrown away. This is unlike plastic which can take multiple years, and even decades, to decompose. It also takes less energy to produce eco-friendly packaging materials. The common materials used for producing compostable packaging are cardboard, recycled paper, and kraft paper. Some companies have also started to use edible sources like rice, corn starch, and vegetable fibers for creating their own customized packaging. The advantage of using such plant-based materials is that the packaging can also be eaten or dissolved using water. It eliminates the problem of disposing of the packaging and accumulating trash.

Using eco-packaging doesn't mean sacrificing durability

Even though biodegradable packaging is mostly made from paper-based material, it is still sturdy enough to store various food types. A thin layer of natural wax is usually applied to the insides of eco-friendly packaging materials to ensure that they are waterproof. Both hot and cold foods may be stored in paper-based packaging because of this compostable wax. Sustainable packaging materials include containers for noodles, rice, meat, cakes, and soup. Wooden utensils, paper straws, and paper cups are other common eco-friendly packaging items.

Plenty of eco-packaging materials are reusable

While most sustainable food packaging options are biodegradable, they may also be recycled if needed. Biodegradable food packaging items that can be reused include cup holders, paper bags, and lids. These function just as well as their plastic counterparts do and are quicker to decompose once worn out.
